Chesapeake Bay Sentinel Site Cooperative
The Chesapeake Bay Sentinel Site Cooperative (CBSSC) integrates data from more than 20 different study sites—including the Rice Rivers Center—and more than 400 surface elevation tables (SETs).
Each sentinel site collects a suite of environmental data:
- Surface elevation tables to measure surface elevation change in coastal wetlands
- GPS to measure large-scale vertical land motion
- Meteorological towers to measure atmospheric conditions
- Other measurements, including local tidal data, vegetation density and water quality
Turning the Tide on Sea-Level Rise
Ron Lopez, a member of Rice Rivers Center’s faculty and part of the centers sentinel site team, wrote and produced a short film, “Turning the Tide,” which showcases several of the CBSSC sentinel sites contributing to the project.
