Restoration

The center plays a pivotal role in environmental restoration initiatives that benefit the commonwealth and beyond. Research at the center has contributed to restoring the Kimages Creek wetlands, and Atlantic sturgeon have enjoyed a population increase in the James River.

The Virginia Oyster Shell Recycling Program's (VOSRP) focus is restoration of oyster populations within the Chesapeake Bay. Waste oyster shells collected by the VOSRP cure for roughly a year at the center.  They are bagged and returned to restoration areas in the Piankatank River.
